A dance once performed in courtyards and communal gathering places. A dance passed down between women, generations, and everyday lives, before gradually disappearing under the Franco dictatorship’s control of women’s bodies, behaviour, and expression.

Through a combination of documentary dance, performative lecture, archival material, and personal storytelling, Valencian choreographer and performer Inka Romaní searches for the traces that remain: in the body, in memory, and in movements that refuse to disappear. Alone on stage, she navigates a solo that moves between the intimate and the political, between research and lived experience, seriousness and subtle humour.

Drawing on the story of her own grandmother, Romaní explores how dance and gymnastics were used as tools of discipline and ideological control under Franco’s regime. At the same time, she opens a space for alternative narratives, where archives, memories, and embodied knowledge can be activated anew.

Volvamos al baile (Let's Dance Again) reveals how dance can be many things at once: a personal family history, a form of political resistance, a historical testimony, and a living contemporary artistic practice. Through movement, text, and archival material, Romaní creates a work that not only examines the past, but also asks how it continues to live on in our bodies today.
