Through rhythm, repetition, and physical intensity, a powerful sense of community emerges. Care and resistance exist alongside humour, transformation, and a strong collective momentum. In LABOUR, the Canadian company PARTS+LABOUR puts bodies to work, bringing visibility to forms of labour that often remain unseen: the physical, emotional, and relational work that is carried, repeated, and sustains the world around us.
The work moves between precision and chaos, between groove, exhaustion, and togetherness. Raw, sweaty, and deliberately unpolished, it rejects expectations of control and perfection. Instead, it creates a space where mastery and breakdown coexist, and where dance emerges as labour, resistance, and shared experience.
On stage, five femme-identifying performers gradually build a hypnotic physical structure driven by rhythm, repetition, and accumulation. Audiences are drawn into the movement and energy, becoming witnesses and accomplices in a landscape where time shifts and bodies are continually transformed.
Co-choreographers Emily Gualtieri and David Albert-Toth have established PARTS+LABOUR as a distinctive voice in Canadian contemporary dance. Through their artistic practice, they explore friction, plurality, and collectivity in works that combine physical intensity with strong social and political undertones.
